Scotty Bowman is a Canadian former professional ice hockey head coach who holds the record for most wins in NHL history, with 1,244 regular-season wins and 223 playoff wins. He won 14 Stanley Cups as a player, coach, or executive, tying for the most all-time. He coached the St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Detroit Red Wings. He was most recently senior advisor of hockey operations for the Chicago Blackhawks until stepping down in July 2022. Bowman is widely regarded as the greatest coach in NHL history.

Bowman won a record nine Stanley Cups as head coach: five with the Canadiens, one with the Penguins, and three with the Red Wings. He also won five Cups as a front-office member. His teams reached the Stanley Cup Finals a record 13 times and the semifinals a record 16 times. He won the Jack Adams Award in 1977 and 1996. In 1976–77, he set a record with 60 wins, breaking his own record of 58 from the previous year; he broke it again in 1995–96 with 62 wins, holding the record for 27 years until the 2022–23 season. His eight losses in 1976–77 are a modern record for fewest defeats.
