Tom's Midnight Garden is a 1989 television series directed by Christine Secombe and starring Jeremy Rampling, Shaughan Seymour, and Isabelle Amyes. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Philippa Pearce and was filmed at Chenies Manor House in Buckinghamshire. It adapts Pearce's classic story, blending a sense of wonder with emotional depth.

Background

Tom Long is sent to his aunt and uncle's boring old house for the summer. One night, the grandfather clock chimes thirteen times, and the backyard becomes a Victorian garden full of magic.

There, Tom meets Hatty, a lonely girl who becomes his friend. Each night he returns, time moves oddly—Hatty ages from a child to a young woman, while Tom stays the same. Through their friendship, Tom learns the garden connects to the present: Hatty is now the elderly Mrs. Bartholomew, the upstairs neighbor, whose dreams link past and present.
