BBC Switch
BBC brand for UK teenagers across multiple platforms.
Last updated
BBC Switch was a brand launched by the BBC on 20 October 2007 to provide content for UK teenagers across television, radio, and online. It ceased broadcasting on 18 December 2010. The brand included a Saturday afternoon television block on BBC Two, a Sunday evening radio slot on BBC Radio 1, and a web portal. It was BBC Two's second programming block aimed at teenagers, following DEF II.
Background
Two live events were held: the first BBC Switch Live on 12 October 2008 at Hammersmith Apollo, featuring Fall Out Boy, Ne-Yo, and others, hosted by Mac, Grimshaw, Osbourne, and Deacon. The second on 8 November 2009 at the same venue included The Saturdays, JLS, and other acts. The brand closed after a broader strategic review by director general Mark Thompson; the BBC Trust supported closure in July 2010, citing the need to cut costs.
