Magic Adventures of Mumfie is an animated children's television series and movie inspired by the Mumfie books by British author Katharine Tozer. Created by Britt Allcroft, the series features a continuous storyline with a music score containing more than 20 songs. It first aired in the United States on the Fox Kids Network from 1995 to 1996 as part of The Fox Cubhouse.

Mumfie is an elephant who lives in a cottage in the woods and decides to go on an adventure after never receiving mail. He meets a bird who asks if he can brighten up a dull tree. Scarecrow, initially always in a field, joins Mumfie on his quest and appears in all episodes. Pinkey the Flying Pig is a pig bullied on a farm who misses her mother, and Mumfie and Scarecrow help her. The Black Cat is a mysterious, magical cat who riddles Mumfie and helps him in unexpected ways; she has a niece who is a grey kitty. The Secretary is the villain of the first season, seeking the Queen of Night's jewel for power. Whale is a friend who contains a luxury room inside him with portholes, hammocks, carpets, and lights. Pinkey's mother does not want Pinkey to be caught by the Secretary. Bristle, initially a strict servant to the Secretary, becomes loyal to the Queen of Night after the Secretary's defeat. Napoleon is a bird imprisoned by the Secretary, whose cut feathers grow back, allowing him to fly again. The Queen of Night rules the island Mumfie visits and is voiced by Britt Allcroft. Mr and Mrs Admiral dream of living in an underwater house; Mr Admiral is kidnapped by Davy Jones and his pirates. Eel glows in the dark and leads Mumfie to the pirates. Davy Jones leads the pirates and later becomes Whale's companion.

Production

The series was produced by The Britt Allcroft Company and narrated by Patrick Breen. Animation was done at Phoenix Animation Studios in Toronto. The first series in 1994 was a 13x10 minute serial later edited into the movie Mumfie's Quest. A Holiday Special titled Mumfie's White Christmas and Series 2 together total 62 individual story episodes. The show was placed under the Bridgefilms joint venture with Sooty International Limited in 1999. Britt Allcroft re-acquired the series in March 2008. In 2013, Britt Allcroft Productions LLV signed a home entertainment distribution deal with Lionsgate, resulting in two DVD releases in 2014. Distribution rights currently belong to Banijay Kids & Family under license from the Allcroft estate. In May 2014, Britt Allcroft stated she had begun production on a reboot, and by July 2015, Zodiak Entertainment's kids division was developing the show with Britt Allcroft Productions.
