Last updated
Born on 14 April 1975 in São Paulo, Brazil, Anderson da Silva is a Brazilian professional boxer and mixed martial artist.[1][2] Silva's 2,457-day UFC Middleweight Championship reign is the longest in the promotion's history.[1]
Key facts and history
Silva then fought in Cage Rage and other promotions, winning the Cage Rage World Middleweight title.[3] As a child, Silva's first martial art was jiu-jitsu, and during his teenage years he studied taekwondo, capoeira, and muay thai.[2][4] Silva's championship period ran from 2006 until 2013, during which he set a UFC record with 16 consecutive wins.[5] In November 2020, Silva departed the UFC and resumed boxing.[5]
What the cited sources add
The same source notes that Silva had won both the Shooto middleweight and Cage Rage World Middleweight titles before joining the UFC.[3] According to Adam Hill's 2013 article, Silva's UFC records included 16 consecutive wins, 14 finishes, a 67.8 percent significant strike accuracy, and 17 knockdowns.[3] Gerbasi's 2010 article ranked Silva's triangle-armbar submission of Chael Sonnen as the number one submission of 2010.[6] That article notes Silva executed the submission "after taking nearly five rounds of punishment" from the challenger.[6]
