The game made up for the Game 2 tie, its site was decided by a coin flip, and it drew a half-capacity crowd. Christy Mathewson started for New York and Bedient for Boston; the Giants led 1–0 until Henriksen's pinch-hit double tied it in the seventh. Smoky Joe Wood relieved, and Fred Merkle's RBI single gave New York a 2–1 lead in the top of the tenth. In the bottom of the inning Snodgrass dropped Clyde Engle's fly ball, a Tris Speaker foul pop fell untouched, Speaker singled in the tying run, and Larry Gardner's sacrifice fly scored Yerkes with the winning run.
