The Boston Bruins are a professional ice hockey team based in Boston. They are the third-oldest active team in the NHL and the oldest surviving professional hockey franchise in the United States. The Bruins are one of the Original Six NHL teams and have won six Stanley Cup championships.

The Bruins were founded in 1924 after Boston grocery magnate Charles Adams was convinced to bring an NHL franchise to the United States. The team's first home was the Boston Arena (now Matthews Arena), the world's oldest indoor ice hockey facility still in use. They moved to the Boston Garden in 1928 and later to the TD Garden in 1995. The Bruins won their first Stanley Cup in 1929 and have since won five more, with their most recent in 2011.
