Resident Evil 2 is a survival horror third person shooter game. The player can freely explore the environment while scavenging for resources such as healing items, ammunition, and key items. The player can move in any direction, rotate the camera, alternate between walking and sprinting, and move while shooting. The player encounters zombies and other hostile creatures. The player has an inventory with eight slots, expandable by finding hip pouches. Safe rooms contain item boxes and typewriters for saving. The Tyrant cannot be killed, only momentarily stunned. Beating the game unlocks the '2nd Run' for the other protagonist. Bonus modes include 'The 4th Survivor' and 'The Tofu Survivor'. 'The Ghost Survivors' is a free bonus mode with what-if scenarios.
