Philipp Lahm (German pronunciation: [ˈfɪlɪp ˈlaːm]; born 11 November 1983) is a German former professional footballer who played as a full-back or midfielder. Widely regarded as one of the greatest full-backs of all time, Lahm was the long-time captain of Bayern Munich, having led them to numerous honours including the UEFA Champions League in 2013 as part of the treble.

Lahm developed into a professional player within the Bayern Munich Junior Team, joining at age 11. He was loaned to VfB Stuttgart for the 2003–04 and 2004–05 seasons, where he made his Bundesliga debut and scored his first Bundesliga goal. After returning to Bayern in July 2005, he became a regular and eventually captain. He captained Bayern to a treble in the 2012–13 season, including the UEFA Champions League final victory over Borussia Dortmund on 25 May 2013.

The 2009–10 season marked a pivotal turning point when manager Louis van Gaal deployed Lahm as his preferred right-back. Forming an excellent partnership with Arjen Robben, he delivered one goal and 12 assists across all competitions while playing every competitive minute except the first-round DFB-Pokal match. This run led Bayern to a league and cup double before reaching the Champions League final against Inter Milan. Two years later, on 19 May 2012, Lahm captained Bayern at the Allianz Arena in another Champions League final against Chelsea; he scored his team's first penalty but they lost the shootout. Later, under Pep Guardiola from the start of the 2013–14 season, Lahm transitioned to defensive midfielder. Guardiola described him as "perhaps the most intelligent player I have ever trained," noting he was at another level. This shift helped Bayern secure a record 24th Bundesliga title and the earliest championship in history.
