Lore & Background
PVSK-Panthers were founded in 1944 and first played in the top division from 1946 to 1950. After a four-year gap, they returned from 1955 to 1985 continuously, with a single season in the second division in 1972. The club was relegated to the second division in 1985 and fell to the third division in 1992. In 1994, the team moved to Pécsvárad, then won the third division in 2000 and moved back to Pécs, returning to the top flight in 2003.
Reader's Guide
PVSK-Panthers hold a significant place in Hungarian basketball history as the oldest club outside Budapest to compete in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I/A, amassing 53 seasons in the top division—second only to MAFC. Their sole major honor came in 2009, when they won the Hungarian Cup and finished as runners-up in the league playoffs after winning the regular season. The club's resilience is evident in its multiple promotions and relegations, including a fall to the third division in the 1990s and a return to the top flight in 2003. Though relegated in 2022, their longevity and 2009 cup victory mark them as a notable provincial force in Hungarian basketball.
