Last updated

Barbie: Princess Adventure is a 2020 CGI-animated musical adventure comedy children's television film directed by Conrad Helten and written by Ann Austen. It was first released on Netflix in the United States on September 1, 2020. As the 37th entry in the Barbie film series, it was the first Barbie-branded production from Mattel Television after their mid-2019 rebrand from Mattel Creations, and also the first from Mainframe Studios since their return to the name Mainframe Entertainment on March 16, 2020. It is the second television film in the Barbie media franchise after Barbie Dolphin Magic (2017), and it would be the catalyst for Mattel shifting the franchise's focus to television forays.

Plot

Barbie travels to the Kingdom of Floravia after an invitation from Princess Amelia. Amelia, whose life is tightly controlled by her royal advisor Alfonso, proposes switching places with Barbie for a week because they look nearly identical. Barbie agrees, and Amelia enjoys freedom before her coronation.

Prince Johan, Amelia's fiancé, discovers the ruse and kidnaps Amelia to force her into marriage so he can rule both kingdoms. Barbie rescues Amelia, and together they stop Johan's plan. Amelia is crowned, and both characters decide to remain true to themselves.
