Background
Vincke founded Larian in 1996 and was project leader and lead programmer on The L.E.D. Wars in 1997, then Divine Divinity in 2002 and Beyond Divinity in 2004. He directed Divinity II and, after deciding to make Larian self-publishing, oversaw Divinity: Dragon Commander and Divinity: Original Sin in 2014, whose 2017 sequel is hailed as one of the best role-playing games of all time.
As creative director of Baldur's Gate 3, released in August 2023 to universal acclaim, he saw the game win over 200 Game of the Year awards. In 2020 he was the first recipient of the Belgian Lifetime Achievement Award, and Variety listed him among the 500 most influential media business leaders in 2023.
In December 2025 a Bloomberg interview in which he described Larian using generative AI for placeholder text and concept references drew widespread backlash; he responded that no game would ship with AI components and no workers would be replaced by AI.
