Ba Sing Se was designed as a sanctuary where the poor lived in the Lower Ring and the wealthy in the Upper Ring. Long Feng exploited this structure to control information, using earthbending techniques to erase memories of those who spoke out of turn. This created an illusion of stability that protected the Earth King from the harsh realities of the ongoing conflict. The infiltration disrupted this fragile peace. By forcing the truth into the open, Team Avatar inadvertently exposed the corruption at the heart of the government. However, the victory came with heavy costs, including the capture of a key ally and the tragic death of a former friend who had been manipulated by the Dai Li.

The heavy gates loomed above, silent guardians of a city that pretended to be safe. Toph closed her eyes, feeling the tremors of the earth beneath their feet. She could sense the guards patrolling the perimeter, their boots pressing rhythmically against the stone, but she also felt something else—a hollow emptiness where truth should have been.
