Neteyam

The eldest Sully son who sacrificed himself to save his family.

Neteyam is the teenage son of Jake Sully and Neytiri, serving as their oldest child within the Omatikaya clan. Portrayed by Jamie Flatters, with younger versions played by Jeremy Irwin and Oliver Moore, he is a natural-born Na'vi whose conception occurred through his father's Avatar form. As the family fled the returning RDA forces, Neteyam accompanied them to the eastern sea of Pandora to seek refuge with the Metkayina clan. He grows up alongside his siblings Lo'ak, Tuktirey and Kiri, with Miles "Spider" Socorro a frequent playmate of the Sully children.

Lore & Background

Neteyam's existence bridges two worlds; conceived via Jake Sully's human-Na'vi hybrid form yet born naturally to Neytiri, he represents a new generation of Na'vi. Sixteen years after the RDA was first repelled from Pandora, Neteyam lived as a member of the Omatikaya clan under his father's leadership. His family life included his brother Lo'ak, sister Tuktirey (Tuk), adopted sister Kiri, and their playmate Spider. When the Resources Development Administration returned with recombinant soldiers like Colonel Miles Quaritch, Neteyam faced immediate danger. He was captured alongside his siblings during a RDA raid but was freed by Jake and Neytiri. The threat from Quaritch, who sought to locate the Omatikaya headquarters using the knowledge of Spider, forced Neteyam's family to leave their home behind.

Reader's Guide

Neteyam is characterized by his protective nature toward his younger siblings and his loyalty to the Sully family unit. His role in the narrative culminates in a moment of supreme sacrifice: he saves three members of his group from capture but loses his life in the process. This event marks a turning point for his parents; following Neteyam's funeral, Jake Sully realizes that running is no longer an option against Quaritch and the RDA. His death serves as the catalyst that solidifies the family's resolve to stand and fight rather than flee further.
