Plot

Best friends Jason and Lee are on a boat trip from Vancouver, Canada, when a vortex pulls them into the alien world known as Stormworld. There they meet Flees, a tough survivor who navigates the dangerous saltwater ocean in her boat. The locals call newcomers like Jason and Lee "access crashers." The boys find shelter at a place called The Settlement. Stormworld is a strange destination where people and objects from countless other worlds end up. This happens when giant beetle-like insects create vortices linking Stormworld to other dimensions. The planet’s surface is mostly a hot, salty ocean dotted with islands. Fresh water is extremely rare and vital for everyone, making it a valuable commodity. The economy runs on trading and bartering the items that fall through the vortices. Three main groups constantly clash on Stormworld: The Settlement, The Arkoddians, and The Drogue. The Settlement is a democratic society based on a constitution written by its founder, Werrolda, who is the leader when Jason and Lee arrive. It sits on an island at a place called the Sighing Peaks. Nearby, a beacon on a hill flashes regularly to guide newly arrived access crashers to safety. The Arkoddians live far away on another island in a strict, patriarchal hierarchy. They need more water each day than a human does, and some carry lazbolt weapons. Unlike most inhabitants, the Arkoddians seem to have arrived together on a large boat. The Drogue are a small gang of thugs who raid the Settlement and collect objects from the vortices. They fly around on flybikes equipped with energy cannons. Long ago, a race called the Abiders lived on Stormworld. They arranged the Sighing Peaks as a kind of map and likely built the portal that leads off the planet.

Notable Characters

Jason pilots the boat called Cougar. He is athletic, full of energy, and always looks on the bright side, with a natural ability to lead. His best friend is Lee, another Earthling who arrived on Stormworld at the same time. In the final episode, Jason chooses to remain on Stormworld with Flees and Ogee, taking on the role of leader for The Settlement. Lee is clever, logical, and sharp, with a scientific way of thinking. He came to Stormworld alongside Jason, and his main goal is to get back to Earth, which he accomplishes in episode 26. Flees came to Stormworld seven years ago with her father, an engineer, after their small plane was pulled through a vortex from Earth. Four years after arriving, her father vanished while kayaking. Now fifteen, Flees has spent the last three years searching for him, and in the process has learned the geography of Stormworld very well. Luce sees Flees as an older sister. Ogee is a bowling ball that talks and is extremely clever. Khelioz, also called The Navigator, was a fisherman on his home planet of Maren. On Stormworld, he works as a trader, sailing a small boat while gathering information to find the portal that lets people return to their home worlds. People often see his methods as sneaky or selfish.
