Background
He grew up in a suburb of Rome, joined Roma's youth team at fourteen and made his Serie A debut in 1972-73. After a 1975-76 loan at Lanerossi Vicenza to 'build up his bones', he came back as a key player. Under Nils Liedholm he became captain and a fan favourite - supporters sang 'Oh, Agostino... Ago, Ago, Ago, Agostino gol!' Liedholm moved him in front of the defence to spray long passes, with Falcao and Cerezo in midfield and Bruno Conti further forward.
