Islam was the youngest of four children, raised by his mother after his father died when he was three. His mother ran a tea shop from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily to support the family. Islam developed an interest in archery after seeing competitors practice at a club across the street from the tea shop. He was signed up for the SB Club in 2017, where his coach noted he had 'something special' and paid close attention to detail. His talent earned him a spot at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan, the national sports institute, in 2019. He made his international debut at the 2022 Archery World Cup, placing 17th in individual and team events and 9th in mixed team. At the 2023 Archery World Cup he helped his team reach the quarterfinals; he placed 113th in the individual recurve at the 2023 World Archery Championships. He also participated at the 2024 Archery World Cup. In June 2024, he won silver at the Final Individual Olympic Qualification Tournament, securing his place at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
