Oil and Water

Oil and Water is the eighth episode of Arcane's first season. It opens on a memory from Mel's childhood: in a ruined throne room her mother Ambessa lectures her on the virtues of war and then beheads a captured noblewoman as Mel pleads for mercy; in the present Mel wakes from the dream beside Jayce. Caitlyn and Vi slip back into Piltover past squads of Enforcers rushing to the Bridge of Progress, only to find the Hextech crystal missing from its canister, while Silco finds Jinx's body in the wreckage on the bridge with the gem in her hand and carries her back to Zaun.

Jayce, sickened by the dead Enforcers on the bridge, spots the remains of one of the Firelights' machines, and Caitlyn brings Vi home through her bedroom window to a startled Kiramman household. Over the episode Mel and her visiting mother trade combat tactics, Caitlyn and Vi forge an unlikely alliance, and Jinx undergoes a startling change.
