Story

In 2047, mankind discovered a rare metal ore called Gaimetal, which possessed a huge amount of energy, and mining began worldwide. By 2064, humans were constantly attacked by Gaist, metallic creatures encrusted with Gaimetal, leading to the formation of the GCG (Gaist Crusher Garrison). In 2075, the GCG deployed Gaist Crushers—humans wearing special Gaimetal armor called Gaist Gear—to battle the Gaist and the threat of a mysterious organization called Erasers. Months after victory against Erasers, Rekka Shirogane and the other Gaist Crushers face a new threat from the ultimate Gaist, God Gaist, led by God Hinokagutsuchi, who plans to cleanse Earth of its impurity blamed on humanity. With the help of a sentient Gaist named Maikuma, they must also confront Cypher, the sole surviving Eraser, who seeks the ultimate Gaimetal for his own use.

Terminology

Gaimetal is a mysterious metallic ore discovered 50,000 meters beneath the ground 15 years before the main story. Though metallic, it can rapidly crystallize and alter an organism's genetic makeup. There are two kinds: Jewel-type Gaimetals, gem-like and used to seal Gaist, typically used by Gaist Crushers; and Structural-type Gaimetals, resembling crystallized rock, used for building large structures. Unpurified Gaimetal can be unstable, forcefully transforming organisms into Gaist, but it can be purified through various techniques.

Gaist are metallic lifeforms made entirely of Gaimetal, born when a Gaimetal receives a certain stimulus. Named after mythical motifs, each Gaist differs in elemental attributes, appearance, and abilities. Certain devices can accelerate a Gaist's hyper-activation. A Crush Chance occurs when a Gaist's body part cracks and crystals sprout, allowing Crushers to destroy its crush metal and restore it to Gaimetal form.

The Gaist Crusher Garrison (GCG) is a worldwide organization that analyzes, researches, and subdues Gaist. Gaist Crushers are humans who equip Gaist Gear, selected for specialties like combat or strategy; Rekka Shirogane was accepted due to his strong determination.
