Molang

A French preschool series about a rabbit and a chick.

Molang

Molang is a French animated series for preschoolers, produced by Millimages. The main character, a white rabbit named Molang, was originally created by South Korean illustrator Hye-Ji Yoon on the messaging platform KakaoTalk. The show’s look and animation borrow heavily from the Japanese chibi art style.

The plot follows two roommates and best friends: Molang, a cheerful and optimistic rabbit, and Piu Piu, a shy, cautious chick. Together, they face everyday problems and sitcom-style situations, as well as bigger, sometimes risky adventures.

Molang (voiced by Bruno Guéraçague) is a white rabbit who turns daily life into something special, paying close attention to small details. Its enthusiasm often gets itself and Piu Piu into trouble. Piu Piu (voiced by Nathalie Stas) is a little yellow chick who dislikes attention and prefers order; unexpected events easily unsettle it. The Pincos are a group of rabbits who look like Molang but have varied personalities—some friendly, some timid, some irritable.

The series first aired on Canal+ France on August 14, 2014. Since then, six seasons, 321 episodes, and a music album have been produced. The first season became available on Netflix on July 1, 2019. In February 2020, Millimages announced a fifth season of 52 five-minute episodes, which began airing on Canal+ on September 9, 2021. As of 2020, the show reaches over 190 countries and has expanded into merchandise, books, music albums, GIFs, digital series, and stickers.

On May 31, 2023, a YouTube channel called Molang YouTuber launched, featuring reaction, challenge, and gaming videos. On December 8, 2023, M4P, a virtual K-pop band with members Molang, Piu Piu, Shiny Pinco, Moody Pinco, and Sweetie Pinco, released their first song, “Whatever You Want.”

The show also airs on Tiny Pop in the UK, Treehouse TV in Canada, and Disney Jr. in the US. Millimages announced that all episodes are available on Hopster Learning in the US as of October 19, 2022.

The first music album, *Molang*, was released on April 1, 2020, on streaming platforms including Spotify and iTunes. By late April 2020, it had been streamed over 40,000 times on Spotify and 20,000 times on iTunes. On November 18, 2020, the EP *A Merry Molang Christmas* came out.
