Plot
The series centers on parenting issues such as allowance disputes, driver's licenses, parking tickets, and the broader challenge of raising responsible children. The Pearsons also work to maintain their marriage and balance professional and family life. Bill Pearson is a family counselor who struggles to understand his own children: his wife Susan is a stay-at-home mom, son Trent tries to live up to his father's expectations, daughter Lauren wavers between obedience and rebellion, and youngest son Bryan frequently gets into trouble, such as when his pet snake escapes. Bill's best friend Paul Dufrayne, a hair-replacement specialist who works in the same building, is treated as family and called 'Uncle Paul' by the kids.
