History

The band's earliest incarnation was called Bushwhack, formed by van Dyck, Sacramone and Shanbrom during high school. That project was set aside because the members felt it did not truly represent them, unlike Earthside, whose name van Dyck said "has a subtlety and an elegance that we feel fits our aesthetic and our aspirations to make beautiful, emotional music that has real weight and honesty to it." Bassist Ryan Griffin joined during the transition, and after failing to find a permanent vocalist, the band decided to work with different singers for each non-instrumental song.

Earthside released their debut album A Dream in Static in 2015, featuring Daniel Tompkins (Tesseract), Björn Strid (Soilwork) and the Moscow Studio Symphony Orchestra. It was produced by David Castillo, mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren, with cover art by Travis Smith. The album was promoted by the single "Mob Mentality", which originated as part of van Dyck's thesis at Yale University and featured Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust. In 2024, Loudwire selected it as one of the 11 best progressive metal debut albums of all time. In 2016, the band supported Leprous (with Voyager) on the European leg of The Congregation tour.
