Biography

Aletheian began as Crutch in 1997 with Alex Kenis on guitars, Keith Isenberg on bass, Vinnie Aldrich on vocals, and Bryan Clarkson on drums. Their early material was metalcore oriented. Aldrich was soon replaced by Joel Thorpe, who recorded on the debut album Crutch. An EP initially titled Annealed by Animosity was later renamed Transitions. Clarkson left and Travis Turner took over drums, joining by recommendation of his cousin Stephen Sarro of Tantrum of the Muse. Donny Swigart also joined in 1999. Influenced by Death, Cynic, Carcass, Emperor, Fates Warning, Dream Theater, Meshuggah, and At the Gates, the band shifted style. Their debut ...Hope Prevails was released independently in 2001 and re-released on Burning Records in 2002.
