History
In 2005 Ron Jarzombek contacted drummer Chris Adler and bassist Alex Webster about a collaboration aiming to push Jarzombek's progressive metal style into a heavier, more extreme direction. The trio briefly considered adding a vocalist but decided to remain instrumental. Adler left due to his schedule with Lamb of God, though he later collaborated with Jarzombek on the track "The Near Dominance of 4 Against 5" for the 2006 compilation Drum Nation Vol. 3. Derek Roddy replaced Adler, and at Webster's suggestion the band adopted the name Machinations of Dementia. Roddy departed in August 2006, after which Charlie Zeleny completed the drum tracks in weeks. The band, now called Blotted Science, released its debut album The Machinations of Dementia in fall 2007 on Jarzombek's EclecticElectric label; it was licensed to Marquee/Avalon for Japan and released there on June 22, 2011. In September 2010 Jarzombek announced a seven-song EP totaling 24 minutes, with a tentative early 2011 release, and confirmed Hannes Grossmann would replace Zeleny on drums. Grossmann and Jarzombek also collaborated in the one-off project Terrestrial Exiled, whose digital single "Duodecimal Levorotation" appeared in May 2011. A two-minute video teaser was posted on YouTube in late July 2011, and the EP The Animation of Entomology was released on October 4, 2011. A European license deal with Basick Records led to a November 28, 2011 release there. In late April 2013 Antithetic Records announced limited edition vinyl releases of both Blotted Science titles, with a May 21, 2013 release date.
