Plot
The Trio chase two vampires on ATVs through a cemetery. One vampire hurls a tree branch at Andrew, knocking him off his vehicle and causing the others to crash. The vampires then run into Buffy and a fight breaks out. During the scuffle, a vampire drops the mysterious disk the Trio are hunting. Warren grabs it, and the Trio slip away without the Slayer noticing. While Buffy continues fighting, Spike grabs one of the vampires and proposes a deal: he will stake the creature if Buffy agrees to tell the Scooby Gang about their sexual relationship. Buffy stakes both vampires on her own and challenges Spike to reveal the secret himself. She reasons that since her friends have already forgiven her for trying to kill them, a brief affair is unlikely to turn them against her.
The following day, Willow waits for Tara outside her classroom. They talk and arrange to meet for coffee. Elsewhere, Buffy and Dawn walk through downtown. Dawn cannot enter most stores because she has admitted to stealing from them. They discuss the items Dawn took and the steps they are taking to make things right.
Jonathan works on a project involving the stolen disk while Warren watches, eager for its completion. Later, while Jonathan finishes the work alone, Warren and Andrew discuss their lack of trust in Jonathan and note that they will soon no longer need him.
That evening, Xander returns from work to find Anya waiting at his apartment. She had hidden behind bushes the previous day as he left the building. Xander tries to apologize for leaving their wedding. For a moment, reconciliation seems possible, but then Xander says he wanted to stop the wedding before it happened.
Surprised, Anya asks what he means and whether he still wants to marry her. Xander admits he loves her deeply and wants to be with her again, but he remains too afraid of himself to go through with marriage. With her back turned, Anya transforms into her vengeance demon face and angrily tries to wish physical harm upon him, but nothing occurs. She reverts to her human face, upset that her powers failed, and leaves a confused Xander behind.
The next day, Anya has coffee with Halfrek. The two demons discuss Anya’s attempts at vengeance. Halfrek reminds her that she cannot grant her own wishes; someone else must wish harm on Xander for her power to work.
