Plot

In the present, Daniel reads Claudia's diaries. She is saved from a fire by Louis but is horribly burned. To save her, Louis convinces a reluctant Lestat to turn her into a vampire. Claudia receives a crash course in vampirism and makes her first kill, proving impulsive and excessive in feeding. She becomes an integral part of the household, acting as a daughter to Louis and Lestat. Because vampires' thoughts cannot be read by their maker, Louis and Claudia share a special connection apart from Lestat. When Louis's mother Florence dies, his sister Grace approaches him to buy their family home, expressing fear of what he has become. Over time, Claudia becomes frustrated being an adult in a teenager's body. She falls in love with a young man but loses control and kills him during an intimate moment; Lestat responds coldly by making her watch the body burn.
