Potsdam Royals
German Bowl champions 2023–2024; last Eurobowl winner.
The Potsdam Royals, an American football club based in Potsdam, Germany, have claimed the German Bowl title twice—in 2023 and 2024. They also secured the final Eurobowl in 2018, defeating the Amsterdam Crusaders. The team now competes in the German Football League (GFL), the country’s highest level of the sport.
Founded in 2005, the Royals entered league play the following year at the fifth tier. After promotions in 2008 and 2009, they won the Regionalliga Ost (third tier) in 2010 and earned a spot in the GFL2 through qualification, but the club declined the promotion and disbanded the team. Reforming in 2012, they had to restart in the fifth tier. Two consecutive undefeated seasons brought them back to the Regionalliga Ost by 2014, where they again won the championship and moved up to the GFL2. In 2017, the Royals went undefeated in the GFL2 North, won the promotion playoffs, and entered the GFL for the first time.

Lore & Background
The Potsdam Royals were formed in 2005 and entered league competition one year later in the fifth tier. After promotions in 2008 and 2009, they won the third-tier Regionalliga Ost championship in 2010 and earned a spot in the German Football League 2, but the club rejected the spot and withdrew the football team. In 2012 the Royals re-entered competition, starting again in the fifth tier. With two succeeding perfect seasons, they returned to the Regionalliga Ost in 2014, won the championship, and were promoted to the GFL2. In 2017 the Royals became champions of the GFL2 North with a perfect season and won the play-offs to qualify for the German Football League, the highest level in Germany. Their greatest achievements include winning the German Bowl in 2023 and 2024, and winning the last Eurobowl in 2018 against the Amsterdam Crusaders.

Their three consecutive German Bowl titles from 2023 to 2025 mark them as one of the most successful clubs in recent league history. Additionally, their victory in the final Eurobowl in 2019 against the Amsterdam Crusaders gives them a unique place in European club football history. The club's journey includes an early setback—rejecting a promotion spot in 2010 and withdrawing the team—followed by a re-entry and steady climb back to the top.
