The Nürnberg Rams originated in early 1981 when two players from the Ansbach Grizzlies began forming a team in Nuremberg. In September 1981, the team joined local sports club TSV 1846 Nürnberg, and in 1982 they entered the 2. Bundesliga, winning it in their first season to earn promotion to the Bundesliga. The club spent sixteen consecutive seasons in the top division, reaching the play-offs in all but two of those years. In 1986, the Rams split from TSV 1846 Nürnberg and joined ASN Pfeil Nürnberg, forcing a rename to Noris Rams for the 1987 season because TSV retained the naming rights. That 1987 season saw the club's greatest success: reaching the play-off semifinals, where they were eliminated by the Berlin Adler. The Rams won the southern division title in 1987, 1989, 1991, and 1996, but never reached or won a German Bowl. After a winless 1998 season, the club was relegated and folded. A new Nürnberg Rams club was formed in 2007, entered the lowest-level Aufbauliga in 2008, and won promotion every year from 2008 to 2011, reaching the German Football League 2 by 2012.
