The Fighting Pirates were formed in 1991 and entered German league competition in 1992. They withdrew in 1999 due to a lack of players, then re-entered in 2001 in the fifth tier. By 2004 they reached the Regionalliga (third tier), and after relegation and promotion, they first reached the GFL2 in 2014. They finished last in 2014 and 2015 and were relegated after the 2015 season. The team returned to the GFL2 North in 2018, finishing third, then finished second in the division in 2019. In the promotion game, they defeated the Düsseldorf Rhinelanders to qualify for the German Football League. However, the 2020 season was never played due to COVID-19. Financial and emotional strain from the pandemic, along with coaches and the sport director leaving for the Hamburg Sea Devils of the new European League of Football, led to the team withdrawing from the GFL without ever playing a match. The club then dissolved and ceased operations entirely in 2020.
