Broken Flesh formed in 2004 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with original members Jacob Mathes (lead vocals), Kevin Tubby (lead guitar, background vocals), Dakota Whiteside (rhythm guitar), Joshua Mathes (bass, background vocals), and Brandon Lopez (drums). Their debut studio album, Forever In Flames, was released in 2009 on Sullen Records. The independent EP Stripped, Stabbed, and Crucified followed in 2012. The band released two more studio albums, Warbound (2013) and Broken Flesh (2015), both on Luxor Records.

In 2016, vocalist Jacob Mathes announced his departure, and both Mathes brothers played their last show at the Serpent Stomp Festival on April 23, 2016. After their departure, the band cycled through several bassists and vocalists, including Kyle Fitzgerald, Bryan Nikkel, and Jake Martin. In 2021, the band played a farewell show at the 89th Street Collective in Oklahoma City as part of the local festival 'rayfest,' after which they stated they would continue as a studio-oriented band. On December 2, 2022, they released the live album Beheaded in Vain, recorded from that 2021 show.

On November 22, 2024, Kevin Tubby posted on Facebook that he had dissolved Broken Flesh on December 30, 2023, citing that former members 'dishonored his daughters,' and that the band had resumed activity with a new lineup.
