Premise

On the reality show Coupled, a dozen single women search for romance on a Caribbean island. Each week, a new group of men arrives to meet them. After an initial encounter, each woman decides whether to go right, indicating she wants to get to know the man better, and join him at a Tiki bar, or go left, meaning she is not interested and returns to the bungalow to wait for the next man. This choice mirrors the swiping mechanic of the dating app Tinder.

The women who go right gather at the Tiki bar, where the man selects two of them to join him at a villa for further dates. At the villa, he spends one-on-one time with each woman to gauge chemistry and connection. By the end of the night, he chooses one to stay with him at the villa, forming a Coupled pair; the other woman goes back to the bungalow to await the next male contestant. After six weeks on the island of Anguilla, each couple must decide whether to continue their relationship back in the United States or end it.

Women who want to keep the relationship go to a helicopter pad to meet their partner, while those who do not stay behind. Throughout the show, contestants have cell phones to text each other, and some of these messages are shown on screen to create dialogue and heighten the drama.
