Cast and characters
Ted King portrayed Officer Jack Logan, and Cristi Conaway played Officer Claire Hemmings, who initially worked in TEC's science division before joining Logan in the field. Don Stark played Captain Eugene Matuzek, the only character carried over from the film, recast from Bruce McGill. Kurt Fuller portrayed Dr. Dale Easter, the TEC's chief historian and a film buff.
Development
In 1996, ABC ordered a prime-time series based on the 1994 film Timecop, with the pilot written by Mark Verheiden. Episode 5, "Rocket Science," appears to be the original pilot, as it shows differences in cast, characters, costumes, TEC procedures, and technology. In that episode, Amy Fuller and a character named Kreutzer staff the historical department, while Easter appears angry and cynical, unlike his later laid-back persona. TEC headquarters is busier, with more personnel and captured time fugitives in period costumes. Matuzek and others wear unconventional business suits suggesting the near future, whereas in the series Matuzek wears contemporary suits and Easter wears aloha shirts. Logan uses a handheld device for data retrieval and protests being sent on missions, contrasting with his later enthusiasm. A scene was inserted to explain Hemmings' absence, stating Fuller substituted for her, though Hemmings' specialty was science and technology.
