Bleed was formed in 2020 by Ryan Hughes, Noah Boyce, and Adam Ackerman, who had previously played together in Garden of Mary. After showing their music to Carson Wilcox, a former bandmate of Hughes in Narrow Head, Wilcox joined the band. The group released their debut EP *Somebody's Closer* independently on September 12, 2021, with artwork by Frank Maddocks. In 2022, they signed to 20 Buck Spin, which re-issued the EP on physical formats.

On October 5, 2022, Bleed released the single 'Killing Time', which was premiered at Knotfest the day prior and later re-recorded for their debut album. Following the single, the band supported Narrow Head on a North American fall tour. Their self-titled debut album was released on May 2, 2025, preceded by the singles 'Marathon' (with a music video directed by Colt Matheson) and 'Enjoy Your Stay' (featuring Olli Appleyard of Static Dress). The album marked the first release to include mixer Rubio N as a full member, who also plays guitar in Narrow Head as Rubio Richie. After the album, Bleed supported One Step Closer on their All You Embrace tour in May and June 2025.

On July 29, 2025, Bleed released a live EP recorded with Audiotree on May 18, featuring guitarist Brendan King as a substitute for Noah Boyce. The article notes it is unknown whether this lineup change is temporary or permanent.
