Ego Trip's Miss Rap Supreme
Female MCs vie for the title of Miss Rap Supreme.
Last updated
Ego Trip's Miss Rap Supreme is an American reality television series that aired on VH1 as a follow-up to 2007's Ego Trip's The (White) Rapper Show. In the series, contestants compete to win the title of next great female MC. The show is hosted by MC Serch and female MC Yo-Yo and premiered on VH1 in April 2008.
Call-out order
The contestant named Miss Rap Supreme won the competition. Each week, the winning contestant on that week's challenge was safe from elimination, and one contestant was named "Miss..." for the week as team MVP. The eliminated contestant was removed from the show, though one eliminated contestant was later brought back into the competition. In one instance, a contestant won the challenge but was eliminated.
One contestant was disqualified. The weekly "Miss..." awards were: Week 1 "Miss Representation", Week 2 "Miss Thang", Week 3 "Miss Maneater", Week 4 "Miss Lady of the Stage", Week 5 "Miss Video Venus", Week 6 "Miss Popularity", Week 7 "Miss Con-G-nality", and Week 8 "Miss Rap Supreme".
Khia was disqualified at the beginning of Episode 2 due to her use of a pre-written song ("Respect Me") for her 16-bar song; Lionezz was brought back as a result. In episode 7, Chiba admitted to Byata and Rece Steele that she uses pre-written songs in the competition but stays original when told to do so, causing tension. Although Chiba won the challenge, she was eliminated in episode 7 after being in the bottom two with Byata.
Reception
Critics had mixed feelings about Ego Trip's Miss Rap Supreme. Common Sense Media's Melissa Camacho gave it two stars, describing it as a questionable choice for younger viewers but noting it could help older teens learn about rap and hip-hop culture. Anastasia Kotsosavas of the Philadelphia Weekly found the show just as cheesy as its predecessor, The (White) Rapper Show, and said she expected a blend of Flavor of Love and American Idol but got a rap version of Paradise Hotel instead.
Adam Graham of the Detroit News believed fans of White Rappers' lighthearted approach to hip-hop would enjoy Miss Rap Supreme, pointing to the first episode where contestants had to rap for a group of "sisters" who were actually nuns and sorority members. Malcolm X. Abram of the Akron Beacon Journal felt that hosts MC Serch and Yo-Yo truly wanted to find a talented female rapper, but contestant Khia came across as having a bad attitude and lacking skill.
