Gameplay

The game combines action-adventure with puzzle elements. Players control the thief Tepeu, while the Majin, Teotl, is AI-controlled and can be given commands for puzzles or combat. As the game progresses, Teotl gains powers such as electricity, used in both combat and puzzle solving. The game emphasizes the differences between the characters; at certain points they are separated, and Tepeu must use stealth against enemies.

Development

Namco Bandai first unveiled Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom at their Gamescom 2009 press briefing. The game was directed by Takahiro Sasanoi, who previously directed Tekken 6. Its original title, Majin: The Fallen Realm, was altered during development. Despite comparisons to The Last Guardian, Namco Bandai insisted this title was in development first. A western release was confirmed in March 2010.

Reception

The game received mixed or average reviews on both platforms according to Metacritic. 411Mania gave the same version 6.9 out of 10, describing it as worth a weekend rental. The A.V. Club gave the PS3 version a B−, noting the translations and voice acting as comically silly.
