Rossoneri
"The red and blacks": the nickname Milan takes from its striped shirt.
Rossoneri, AC Milan's widely used nickname, literally means "the red and blacks" in Italian, a reference to the colours of the stripes on the club's jersey. Founder Herbert Kilpin chose red for the players' fiery ardour and black for the opponents' fear of challenging the team.
Lore & Background
Founded in 1899, Milan moved to the San Siro in 1926 and has shared it with Inter Milan since 1947. The club has spent its entire history in Serie A apart from the 1980-81 and 1982-83 seasons. Another nickname drawn from the colours is the Devil.
