All This Time (Sting album)

Live album recorded at Sting's Italian villa on 9/11.

Sting’s live album and concert film All This Time was recorded at his Italian villa on September 11, 2001. An audience selected from his fan club attended the performance, which included live renditions of songs from both his solo work and his time with the Police. The project borrows its title from a track on his album The Soul Cages. Jim Gable directed the concert documentary, with editing by Scott C. Wilson and Jeffrey Doe.

Background

Sting assembled a group of musicians to practice and perform at his home, Villa Il Palagio in Tuscany, Italy. The events leading up to the performance were filmed, and on the day of the show the September 11 attacks occurred, of which the musicians became aware. The concert went ahead as planned, though Sting later noted that the evening's tone differed from the original intention. The performance of "Desert Rose" with Cheb Mami was canceled due to the circumstances. The album consists mainly of acoustic renditions from Sting's catalogue; he told Saga magazine he aimed for an intimate feel to achieve a real atmosphere. After the album's release, Sting undertook a tour of over 250 shows. The concert was dedicated to those who died in the September 11 attacks. The CD booklet states on its first page that the album was recorded on that day and is respectfully dedicated to all who lost their lives. Only the lyrics for "Fragile" are transcribed in the booklet.
