Kings improved but missed playoffs for 13th straight season.
The 2018–19 Sacramento Kings season was the 74th season of the franchise, its 70th in the NBA, and its 34th in Sacramento. The team entered with the longest active postseason drought at 12 seasons and, after receiving the second pick in the 2018 NBA draft, selected Marvin Bagley III. The Kings improved to a winning record through the All-Star break and reached 30 wins at that point for the first time since 2005, but missed the playoffs for a 13th straight season on March 30.

Draft picks
The Kings entered draft night with two selections. Their first selection became the #2 pick after they rose from tying the Chicago Bulls with the sixth-worst record the previous season. With that pick, Sacramento selected early freshman power forward Marvin Bagley III from Duke University. Bagley, who had been projected as a senior at Sierra Canyon High School earlier in the previous season, played one season at Duke. In 33 games (starting all but one), he averaged 21 points on .614 overall shooting and .397 from three-point range, 11.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.9 blocks, and 0.8 steals in 33.8 minutes per game. He was named a consensus All-American First Team member, won the Pete Newell Big Man Award, and was ACC Rookie of the Year, ACC Player of the Year, and All-ACC First Team. Their second-round pick at #37, Gary Trent Jr. from Duke, was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers for two future second-round picks and cash considerations.
