2018–19 Atlanta Hawks season

Draft picks

The Hawks entered draft night with four total picks, three of which were in the first round. Their first first-round pick rose into the Top 3 after the team tied the Dallas Mavericks for the third-worst record the previous season. The next first-round pick came from trading Adreian Payne to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a lottery-protected first-round pick, which conveyed thanks to a do-or-die game against the Denver Nuggets. The last first-round pick was acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets, involving the Houston Rockets' first-round pick from the Chris Paul trade, along with Jamal Crawford, Diamond Stone, and cash considerations, while giving up the Washington Wizards' 2019 second-round pick to Denver. The sole second-round pick resulted from losing the first-round tiebreaker with Dallas. The Hawks traded the third pick (Luka Dončić) to the Mavericks for a protected 2019 first-round pick and the fifth pick, which became Trae Young from Oklahoma. Young had been projected as a second-round pick before the previous season but became the first NCAA player to lead the nation in both points and assists in the same season. With the 19th pick, the Hawks selected sophomore shooting guard Kevin Huerter from Maryland. With their last first-round pick, they drafted freshman power forward Omari Spellman from Villanova, a member of their championship team.
