2011–12 Portland Trail Blazers season
Injury-plagued season ended with coaching change and key retirements.
Last updated
The 2011–12 campaign marked the Portland Trail Blazers' 42nd year in the NBA, a season shortened to 66 games by the lockout. They ended with a 28–38 record, placing 11th in the Western Conference. This season was the final one for head coach Nate McMillan, who was dismissed in March, and for starting guard Brandon Roy, who retired. The team also let go of 2007 top draft pick Greg Oden after his injury-plagued tenure.
Injuries
Brandon Roy hung up his sneakers before the season tipped off, forced out by a degenerative knee problem. LaMarcus Aldridge went in for heart surgery two weeks before the opener, then needed another operation on a torn right hip labrum just two weeks before the finale.
Greg Oden, already sidelined for the year after procedures on both knees, underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee in February. Shawne Williams had bone fragments removed from his left foot that same month, ending his season. In March, Elliot Williams dislocated his left shoulder and had surgery to repair the capsule, missing the rest of the year.
