Summary
The series was initially conceived as a shorts/pilot program for Disney Television Animation, produced by John Solomon and Carolyn Suzuki. The host, Shorty McShorts, is often shortened to "Shorty" or "SMS", which appears on his hat. He serves as the train conductor for his own Short Line and appears in advertisements, introductions, and conclusions of each short, but never within any short itself. The show takes the form of a Saturday-morning cartoon, with shorts that could be installments of their own mini-series. The Boyz on Da Run shorts have three episodes as a miniseries, with a fourth that never aired. The series finale, "Flip-Flopped", was scored by Robert Schneider of The Apples in Stereo.
Broadcast history
Critics were split on Shorty McShorts' Shorts. New episodes dropped weekly until the sixth one. Season one ended on September 29, 2006, with the third part of the Boyz on Da Run miniseries. The show then took a break until April 2007, with Minuscule filling its slot. Season two only lasted a month, airing fresh episodes from April 20 to May 25, 2007. The series was last seen in May 2007 before being canceled. Reruns popped up occasionally to plug gaps in the schedule before vanishing entirely. Out of about 25 shorts made, just 13 ever aired; the rest showed up in other countries or leaked online. The unaired short Fish Tale later became the basis for Fish Hooks in 2010, and the tenth episode, SheZow!, got a second life as a full series on the Hub Network.
