Differences between the TV series and the film

In the series, the Nothing is a recurring villain depicted as a black hole with evil red eyes, belonging to a white wolf, serving as the television version of Gmork. The sorceress Xayide wears green robes with an eye mask with yellow slits, unlike her appearance in the first sequel film. The Rockbiter has a wife and a son named Junior, who also appear in the series.

Telecast and home media

The series first aired on HBO from 1995 until 1996, with repeats on HBO Family until 2005. In Canada it aired on Family Channel, and internationally on Nickelodeon (UK and Latin America), Canal+ (France), and Kindernet (the Netherlands). A single episode was released on VHS by HBO Home Entertainment in 1996. In 2005, FUNimation Entertainment released the first three episodes on DVD as "Bastian to the Rescue". Via Vision Entertainment released the complete series on NTSC Region 0 DVD in Australia in 2024. All episodes were available on Amazon Prime as of 2022.
