Characters of the StarCraft series

Characters from the three species vying for supremacy in the Koprulu sector.

The StarCraft series characters were created by Chris Metzen and James Phinney, with Metzen solely credited for the expansion plot.[1] Voice actors recorded their lines in sessions of up to four hours over only a few days.[2] Concept art for visual development was used by voice actor Robert Clotworthy to develop his character's personality.[2]

Key facts and history

Raynor's rebel movement recovered a Xel'Naga artifact that deinfested Sarah Kerrigan, restoring her humanity.[3] Kerrigan was originally a Terran ghost agent betrayed to the Zerg, who transformed her into a hybrid with vast psionic powers.[4] Nova is the daughter of a Confederate Old Family, rescued during the Zerg invasion of Tarsonis and trained as a Dominion ghost.[5] Arcturus Mengsk released Tychus Findlay from prison on condition that Tychus assassinate Sarah Kerrigan.[6]

Valerian Mengsk revealed himself as the owner of the Moebius Foundation and joined Raynor to rescue Kerrigan.[7] After the Overmind perished, Kerrigan broke away on her own, attacked those who had betrayed her, and ultimately assumed command of the whole Zerg Swarm.[4] Chris Metzen created Zeratul, and concept art for the character was done by Samwise Didier along with other Blizzard artists.[8]

What the cited sources add

The interview with Robert Clotworthy revealed that the original concept of Jim Raynor was designed from a TV series titled Texas Ranger.[9] Clotworthy stated that the voice of an actor gives texture and life to a character in the original StarCraft.[9]
