Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dawn of Destiny
First Yu-Gi-Oh! Xbox game with over 1,000 cards.
Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dawn of Destiny is a strategy title from Konami Computer Entertainment Japan, published by Konami. It launched exclusively on Xbox in 2004, marking the franchise’s first appearance on that console. The game includes more than 1,000 Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and blends the rules of the trading card game with three-dimensional monster animations.
The gameplay sticks to the official card-battling rules but brings the game’s creatures to life in 3D. Players can watch real-time battles as cards are played, or browse the monster library to view hundreds of creatures. Up to three decks can be built and saved, and the deck-building interface is straightforward. Single-player mode lets users duel against characters from the animated series, while Link Duel Mode allows two human players to face off. As with earlier Konami Yu-Gi-Oh! releases, the game came with three physical game cards from a specific promotional set, though the North American release did not include the Winged Dragon of Ra.
On January 8, 2004, Konami Digital Entertainment announced three spring 2004 Yu-Gi-Oh! games: *World Championship Tournament 2004* for Game Boy Advance, *Yu-Gi-Oh! Xbox* (working title) for Xbox, and *Power of Chaos: Kaiba the Revenge* for PC. Each starred Yugi Mutou and his friends and shipped with three exclusive limited-edition cards. *Dawn of Destiny* was the franchise’s Xbox debut, offering 1,000 cards, including some exclusive to this game.
According to review aggregator Metacritic, the game received mixed reviews.
