Features
Rage in the Cage is the first WWF game to incorporate actual video footage, including FMV clips in the opening video, signature move clips on the wrestler select screen, and celebration clips after tournament mode completion. Audio introductions by Howard Finkel and pre-match rants between competitors are present. However, the game's music did not utilize the CD format and resembles the synthesized music of 16-bit games, particularly the SNES version of Royal Rumble. The game features 20 wrestlers, the largest roster in a WWF game up to that point.
Gameplay
Each wrestler has punches, kicks, several grapple moves executed via a tug-of-war lockup system, running attacks, a top turnbuckle move, and a unique signature finishing move. Illegal eye gouges and chokeholds are available only outside the ring or without a referee. Match variations include One Fall (standard pinfall), Brawl (no referee, no count-out, illegal moves always allowed, ends when one wrestler cannot continue), and Cage Match (inside a steel cage, victory by escaping). A one-player Tournament mode has the player defeat all opponents in One Fall matches to become WWF Champion, concluding with an FMV clip of the wrestler celebrating. No tag team modes are included, despite the presence of tag teams such as Money Incorporated, The Headshrinkers, and The Nasty Boys.
