History

A.S. Roma’s women’s team was born when Res Roma, a club that had played in Serie A since 2003, handed over its competition license after the 2017–18 season. The new side’s first captain was Roman defender Elisa Bartoli. Betty Bavagnoli coached the squad for its first three years before becoming the club’s Head of Women’s Football; Alessandro Spugna then took over as head coach. Roma’s first major trophy came in the 2020–21 season, winning the Coppa Italia on 30 May 2021 by beating Milan on penalties after a draw.

The team claimed its first Serie A title on 29 April 2023 with a 2–1 win over Fiorentina. The next season, Roma completed a domestic double, securing the 2023–24 Serie A and the 2023–24 Coppa Italia on 24 May 2024, defeating Fiorentina 4–3 on penalties after a 3–3 draw. In the 2025–26 season, Roma again won the domestic double, taking the Serie A title and the 2025–26 Coppa Italia on 26 May 2026 with a 1–0 victory over Juventus.
