Lore & Background
Shore began his professional career after being drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2011, spending his first full NHL season with the Kings in 2015–16. He was traded multiple times, moving from the Kings to the Ottawa Senators in February 2018, then to the Calgary Flames later that same month. After a season in the KHL with Metallurg Magnitogorsk, he returned to the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2019, but was claimed off waivers by the Winnipeg Jets in December 2019. Shore played out the remainder of the 2019–20 season with the Jets in a fourth-line role.
Following the delayed North American season in 2020, Shore signed short-term contracts in Slovakia and Switzerland before joining Russian club Sibir Novosibirsk for the 2021–22 season, where he became the team's scoring leader. He left Sibir on March 1, 2022, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He subsequently played in Switzerland and Sweden before returning to North America on a professional tryout with the Carolina Hurricanes in August 2023. Shore is currently playing for Linköping HC in the SHL.
Reader's Guide
Nick Shore's career illustrates the path of a versatile, journeyman center who moved frequently between NHL teams and European leagues. His time with the Winnipeg Jets was brief—42 regular-season games in 2019–20, where he contributed 3 points in a fourth-line role after being claimed off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs. While not a star, Shore's ability to adapt to different systems and leagues, from the NHL to the KHL, SHL, and NL, underscores his resilience. His decision to leave Sibir Novosibirsk in 2022 due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine reflects a personal and professional choice amid geopolitical events. Shore's legacy is that of a reliable depth player who, despite not securing a long-term NHL role, maintained a professional career across multiple top-tier leagues. His brother Drew also plays in the NHL, and both attended the University of Denver.
