Adam Lowry (born March 29, 1993) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre and captain for the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, while his father Dave played for the St. Louis Blues. Lowry was selected in the fourth round, 78th overall, by the Swift Current Broncos at the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft, but played one more season of minor hockey with the Calgary Rangers in the Alberta Midget Hockey League before joining the Broncos. In his rookie WHL season, he scored 15 goals and 34 points in 61 games as a 16-year-old and won the Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Trophy as scholastic player of the year. The following season, he missed August and September 2010 due to mononucleosis but still finished with 18 goals and 45 points in 66 games. He was again nominated for the scholastic player award but lost to Colin Smith. Heading into the 2011 NHL entry draft, Lowry was ranked 58th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting, up from 62nd mid-season. The Winnipeg Jets selected him in the third round, 67th overall, on June 25, 2011.
After finishing his major junior career, Lowry signed an amateur tryout contract with the St. John's IceCaps of the AHL on April 4, 2013, recording one assist in six games before signing an entry-level contract with the Jets. He was named the 2012–13 WHL Player of the Year, receiving the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy. He attended the Jets' 2013 Development Camp and was assigned to the IceCaps for his first full professional season in September 2013. Shifted to centre, he tallied 17 goals and 16 assists for 33 points in 64 games, helping the IceCaps reach the 2014 Calder Cup Finals, where they were swept by the Texas Stars. Lowry was promoted to the Jets for the 2014–15 season, playing on the third line with Mathieu Perreault and Dustin Byfuglien. He scored his first NHL goal on October 21 in a 3–1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. By January 2015, he was playing with Evander Kane and Chris Thorburn, registering six goals and 15 points through 48 games. On April 11, he was one of five Jets to score in a win over the Calgary Flames that tied a franchise high for wins and set a new franchise best with 99 points. He made his playoff debut on April 16 in Game 1 against the Anaheim Ducks, becoming the fastest rookie to score in his NHL playoff debut in eight years.
