Shaw began his professional career after being signed by the Florida Panthers to a three-year entry-level contract in April 2013. He made his NHL debut with the Panthers in October 2015 and later played for the Anaheim Ducks, Montreal Canadiens, and Ottawa Senators. He signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Winnipeg Jets on November 11, 2018, but did not appear in a game for the Jets that season, instead spending the remainder of the year with the Manitoba Moose, where he led the Moose with 27 goals and finished second in scoring with 46 points in 63 games. The Jets re-signed him to a one-year, two-way contract extension on May 31, 2019. He split the 2019–20 season between the Jets and the Moose, appearing in 35 games for the Jets and scoring two goals and five points.
