Eric Comrie is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who plays for the San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Winnipeg Jets picked him in the second round, 59th overall, during the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Comrie moved with his family to Newport Beach, California at age nine. He played minor hockey for the LA Selects (later the LA Jr. Kings) in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League and took part in the 2008 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with that team. The Tri-City Americans selected him 13th overall in the first round of the 2010 WHL bantam draft. During the 2010–11 season, he played for the Selects U16 team, posting a .940 save percentage and a 1.34 goals-against average over 19 games.
Comrie made his WHL debut on April 10, 2011, coming on in relief of goaltender Drew Owsley during a playoff game against the Spokane Chiefs, which ended in a 6–3 loss. In his rookie season with Tri-City (2011–12), he appeared in 31 games with a .900 save percentage. He improved the following season until a hip injury ended his campaign after 37 appearances. At season’s end, NHL Central Scouting ranked him second among North American goaltenders. He was then drafted by the Jets. In 2013–14, Comrie led the WHL in save percentage (.925) and earned a spot on the WHL (West) Second All-Star Team.
The Jets signed Comrie to a three-year entry-level contract on December 24, 2013. After the Americans’ season ended in 2014, he joined the AHL affiliate St. John's IceCaps, going winless in two games. He rejoined the IceCaps at the end of the following season, posting a 2–1–0 record in three games. Comrie moved to the AHL full-time in 2015–16, playing for the Manitoba Moose (the relocated IceCaps). That season he went 13–25–7, and the next year he posted an 18–25–2 record.
On April 5, 2017, Comrie received his first NHL recall from the Jets. He made his NHL debut the next day against the Columbus Blue Jackets, stopping 35 shots in a 5–4 win. On September 7, 2019, the Jets signed him to a two-year, $1.4 million contract extension. He was placed on waivers on September 30 and claimed by the Arizona Coyotes the following day. After no appearances with Arizona, he was assigned to the Tucson Roadrunners for conditioning on November 9. On November 30, the Coyotes traded him to the Detroit Red Wings for Vili Saarijärvi.
